Venom in saliva is slow acting but over time can cause paralysis and death. Young children are most at risk. Symptoms include an unsteady walk, weakness of the limbs, headache, fever, flu-like symptoms, sore lymph nodes, and partial facial paralysis.

Antivenom – Available
First aid consists of finding and removing the tick, and supporting the patient until antivenom can be administered. The tick should be levered out using a pair of curved scissors.
A careful search should be made for other attached ticks.
