The brown snake group includes a number of the more dangerous of Australia's venomous snakes, including the eastern brown snake, P. textilis and the gwadar, P. nuchalis. Snakes of this genus are responsible for more deaths in Australia in the last 30 years than those of any other genus. They are found throughout the mainland.
