Bumblebees were introduced into Tasmania in the early 1990's. They form colonies ranging in size from a few individuals up to several dozen, housed in undergroud burrows. They are noticibly more docile than honeybees or social wasps, but will sting if threatened enough. Direct toxicity of the venom is unlikely to be a clinical problem, but anaphylactic reation to one or a few stings may be a threat.
