Assistant Professor Chris Hogan is a consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He was inspired after a presentation by Australian Venom Research Unit (AVRU) Director Dr Ken Winkel in the United States to pursue his interest in
Loxosceles spider bite and necrotising arachnnidism during a two month visit to Australia in March/April 2001. He worked at AVRU with Dr Katia Barbaro to investigate the efficacy and cross specificity of antibodies to the venoms of various
Loxosceles spiders from North and South America. He is an Honorary Fellow of the AVRU.
