Hawdon, Gabrielle

In September 1996 Dr Gabrielle Hawdon was appointed as a part time research officer at the AVRU. She has a background in medical science and intensive care medicine and a Master of Public Health degree in epidemiology and biostatistics. Her skills strengthen the nationally neglected area of envenomation epidemiology research. She also developed the Unit's first website to facilitate education about Australia's venomous creatures and appropriate first aid and medical treatment for their bites and stings. With Dr Winkel, she participated in the 24 hour medical advisory service, and was also a CSL consultant on venoms and envenomations. Dr Hawdon was appointed Deputy Director (Clinical) of Australian Venom Research Unit on 1 April 1999 and resigned in April 2003.
