Midgely, Helen
In 1996 Helen Midgley set up The Spider Bite Recovery Group Inc. to help herself and others who have had a bad reaction to spider bite. In November 2001, she was awarded the South Australian Great Award for her contribution to health. As well as being President of the support group, Helen Midgley is an active St. John Ambulance Officer, Aero-Medical Nurse, and Emergency Medical Technician. She has written numerous articles on the prolonged suffering following spider bites and gives many media interviews and educational talks on the subject. During one of her educational talks at Yankalilla Primary School, Midgley was dubbed 'The Spider Lady' by the children. This name has stuck and has become her trade mark and the title of her self-published book.
