Debridement

Debridement is the removal of damaged tissue. Patches of necrotic skin (dead skin) are removed to prepare the surface for grafting; torn or damaged cartilage is removed from joints through arthroscopic surgery. This is particularly important with marine wounds to prevent the dead tissue from becoming infected with bacteria.
