6 March 2007: New Species of Taipan Discovered
Dr Mark Hutchinson, curator of reptiles and amphibians at the South Australian Museum has announced the discovery of a new species of taipan. The new species, Oxyuranus temporalis, was found deep in the outback in Western Australia. It is now one of three species of taipan in Australia, along with the coastal taipan and the inland taipan or fierce snake.
