| The AVRU Director, Dr Ken Winkel, was interviewed by the Sydney ABC News on the topic of staying "Snake Smart" this summer. After the third tragic brown snakebite-related fatality this summer (in Sydney last weekend), it is clear that more work needs to be done to make sure the Australian community knows how to prevent snakebite and what the appropriate first aid is in case of different bites and stings. Dr Winkel emphasised the importance of the pressure-immobilisation first aid technique to "stop the clock" on the movement of venom through the body after a bite. Further details of how and when to use this technique, including a demonstration movie and factsheet are provided in the first aid section of the AVRU website. |
