Dr Katia Barbaro, a toxinologist in the Immunopathology Laboratory of the world-famous Institute Butantan in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is an AVRU Fellow. She spent time in Melbourne at the AVRU in 2002, working with Emergency physician and AVRU Fellow, Dr Chris Hogan, now at the Virginia Medical College in Richmond, Virginia, USA.They collaborated with Dr Ken Winkel on Loxosceles spider venom and antivenom studies - now published in the international scientific journals Toxicon and Annals of Emergency Medicine.
