New York
The AVRU has collaborative links with Dr Bob Hoffman, Director of the New York City Poison Control Centre, and Dr Nadine Levick, of Miamonades Medical Centre in Brooklyn (formerly of Columbia University and Johns Hopkins Medical Center). Dr Ken Winkel was a visiting toxicologist at the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York in January-February 2006. Dr Levick is an AVRU Fellow and has published with Dr Winkel on venomous injuries in the Medical Journal of Australia, Annals of Emergency Medicine and in the CSIRO textbook, Hymenoptera: Evolution, Biodiversity and Biological Control. The key current project is to better define the epidemiology of venomous bites and stings in the USA. AVRU Fulbright Scholar, Laura Rose Greisman, formerly of Cornell University, is progressing the first stage of this project in a detailed study of US venom-related mortality (covering the period from 1979-2003). |
