The rabbit fish is also known, in various parts of its range, as the black trevally, stinging bream or mi-mi. It grows to a length of around twenty centimetres. Like a number of other species of stinging fish, it has thirteen venomous dorsal spines, and envenomation produces immediate and excruciating pain.
