Found throughout much of Papua New Guinea, the smooth-scaled New Guinea death adder has also been reported from Australian islands in the Torres Strait. They are common in areas with plentiful leaf litter or other ground cover that might afford a place to hide. Their typical prey consists of lizards, frogs and small rodents. They are generally nocturnal and only move around during the day if disturbed.
