These jellyfish are also known as fire jellies because of the burning pain associated with their sting. They are larger than their close relatives, the jimble and irukandji, but the consequences of their stings are generally not as severe. Usualll, the result of a sting is moderate to severe pain at the site for around 24 hours, although there also may be respiratory distress.
