The scorpion fish is well-armed, even among stinging fish. It has thirteen dorsal spines, three anal spines, four spines around its mouth and a single spine on its breast, making a total of 21. It lives in coastal shallows in the warmer months and inhabits seagrass meadows and reefs. It is nocturnal, and presents a danger to people fishing at night. It is thought to have contributed to a single death. |
