Southcott, Ronald Vernon
Ronald Vernon Southcott was one of Australia’s greatest doctor-naturalists and an expert in the field of venom research in marine animals. Much of his work was self-funded and undertaken in his own time. His contributions to toxinology include the famed description and naming of the box jellyfish Chironex fleckeri, the first definitive study of Australian scorpions and extensive descriptions of the medical effects of toxic fungi, plants and Australian insects.
