Abstract

The effects of taipan and mulga snake venoms in the rabbit, guinea-pig, rat and monkey (taipan only); in vitro effect of the venoms on blood coagulation and haemolysis; effect on circulation; taipan venom contains thrombase, is feebly haemolytic and powerfully neurotoxic causing death by respiratory failure; mulga snake venom has powerful anticoagulant and haemolytic actions but a weak neurotoxic action; both venoms stimulate isolated plain muscle.
