Abstract

Experiments in intact frogs with Indian cobra, death adder and copperhead venoms - death adder venom has a curarising action, copperhead venom has a toxic effect on the heart; experiments on isolated gastrocnemius-sciatic nerve preparation with (eastern) brown snake, copperhead, (red-bellied) black snake, mulga snake, death adder, tiger snake, black tiger snake, taipan, Indian cobra and krait and sea snake (E. schistosa) venoms; all except taipan venom had a curarising action; effect of the venoms on the chronaxie of the nerve-muscle preparations; effect of the venoms on voluntary muscle.
