Abstract

General comments about snakes; immunity of snakes to their own venom; gift of Australian venoms from Thomas Bancroft; production of immune serum; experiments with venoms of the cobra (Naja tripudians), Crotalus horridus, Sepedon haemachates and a large unidentified snake from Diamantina, S.Aust.; lethal dose for rabbits; immunization of animals with the four venoms; experiments with serum from a rabbit immune to cobra venom show that it gives some protection against the other venoms; a horse is being injected with cobra venom to produce an antivenene.
