Dr Mark O'Shea

Dr O'Shea has had a long association with venomous snake research, and particularly snakebite research through his collaborations with AVRU Principal Fellow and Professor David A Warrell, Founding Director of The Centre for Tropical Medicine at Oxford University, and Professor David Theakston of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Dr O'Shea was research team herpetologist during the early 1990's when Oxford scientists first undertook extensive studies of snakebite in Papua New Guinea, and he is the author of the only book on the snakes of that country. He is widely respected within both the herpetological community and has held respective appointments as both Chairman and then President of the International Herpetological Society. He is an affiliate of the National Museum & Art Gallery of PNG, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, and of the Zoological Society of London. Dr Mark O'Shea
