Prof K Gopalakrishnakone

Principal Fellow

Professor Gopalakrishnakone is an Honorary Principal Fellow at the Australian Venom Research Unit. His main appointment is as a Professor and Head of the Venom and Toxin Research Group, Department of Anatomy within the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Singapore . He is a world leader in the characterization of the structure and function of animal and plant toxins and chemical poisons. He has also contributed significantly to the body of knowledge regarding the anatomy of snake venom glands and the development of drug candidates from animal toxins. Moreover he initiated the development of the venom and toxin research program within the NUS, an internationally renown toxinology research centre, as well as created the Singapore Poison Information Centre. Gopal regularly visits the AVRU to facilitate joint research projects.
